Clive Palmer's final bid to tear down WA's hard border rejected

The High Court has rejected Clive Palmer's challenge against Western Australia's border ban.

The court has found both the directions and the emergency laws are valid.

Mr Palmer will now be required to pay the costs.

The state's Premier, Mark McGowan, announced the decision on Twitter saying, "I will always fight to protect the health of Western Australians".

In August, the Federal Court ruled against Mr Palmer due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19.

Justice Darryl Rangiah said the state's decision to keep the borders closed to other jurisdictions was more effective in stopping the spread of COVID-19 than other measures such as hotel quarantine.

Justice Rangiah said the "health consequences would be catastrophic" if the hard border regime was dismantled.

More to come.
