Australia records zero community COVID-19 cases as global deaths hit record levels

Australia has recorded another day without community transmission of COVID-19 at the same time the global tally racked up its highest daily loss of life.

The incredible statistic was shared by Australia's Health Minister Greg Hunt, who noted that globally today the world has recorded its second-highest number of new daily cases.

"The latest advice from the National Incident Centre is that Australia has again recorded a zero community transmission day," Mr Hunt tweeted.

"This occurs at a time when the world has recorded its second-highest daily global case numbers and sadly its highest daily loss of life."

According to the World Health Organisation's COVID-19 dashboard – which is endorsed by the Australian Government on their website – there have been more than 1.2 million deaths due to COVID-19 to date.

Yesterday on November 4, 7084 people died as a result of the virus. A total of 436,068 new daily cases were recorded.

When broken down by region, the Americas – including both south and north – have recorded the most cases with 20.9 million confirmed patients.

Europe is second with 11.8 million cases followed by South-East Asia with 9.4 million cases.

The United States leads the world in confirmed COVID-19 cases with 9.2 million people testing positive for COVID-19.
