The Federal Government has named two new appointments to the High Court of Australia following the retirement of two Justices.
As part of due process, the Governor-General accepted the advice of government in appointing the Honourable Justice Simon Steward and the Honourable Justice Jacqueline Gleeson as Justices of the High Court of Australia.
They fill the vacancies left by the Honourable Justice Geoffrey Nettle AC who retired on the 30 November 2020 and the Honourable Justice Virginia Bell AC who retired on the 28 February 2021.

"We have had exhaustive efforts to arrive these decisions before their appointments," Prime Minister Morrison said.
"Every Justice appointed to the High Court carries a significant burden to uphold the laws of our land. I congratulate Justice Stewart and Gleason and I wish them all the best."
The High Court of Australia is the highest court in the land, and the final court of appeal.

It has the power of judicial review over laws passed by the parliament, and has the ability to interpret the Constitution of Australia.
