Student impaled through groin by javelin at Gold Coast school

A Gold Coast student has been impaled in the groin by a javelin at a school.

The freak accident occurred during a year 7 physical education lesson at Saint Stephens College in Upper Coomera just before 11am.

The school nurse treated the 12-year-old boy before emergency services arrived at the scene.

Firefighters were needed to remove the javelin from the boy's body before he was taken to hospital.

Saint Stephens said in a statement that the boys parents had been notified.

"The student's parents were immediately contacted and support is being offered to those impacted by the incident"

"The welfare of our students remains the number one priority of the College."

Paramedics say the 12-year-old is in a stable condition.
