Sport newsreader's jaw-dropping confession on AFL Grand Final

Nine News sport newsreader Tony Jones has admitted he fell asleep during the AFL Grand Final in the latest episode of 9News Unmasked.

TJ told co-panellists Livinia Nixon and Peter Hitchener he dozed off towards the end of the match, which was the first-ever night Grand Final.

His daughter Lauren was the one to wake him up.

"Lauren and I were watching the Grand Final and I fell asleep in the last quarter," he said.

"She said: 'do you know what we're watching? The Grand Final'."

His sleepy confession triggered laughter from gobsmacked co-panellists.

"Not an admission every sports reporter makes," Hitch said.

TJ said he hilariously woke up presenting the news: "Good morning and welcome to the Sunday Footy Show. What a win to the Western Bulldogs".

"You may have had a time machine that took you back, what four years?" Livinia said.

"There may have been a glass of red wine there," the sports newsreader laughed.

"It's been a very long season."
