As many as 70 whales are stranded in a harbour on Tasmania's west coast.
Marine conservation experts have been sent to Macquarie Harbour, near Strahan.
Tasmania Police and the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) are on site.
The animals, believed to be pilot whales, are on a sandbar.
They have been stranded inside Macquarie Heads, the DPIPWE said in a statement.
