Two women and a toddler are in hospital after a car drove off a cliff in Newcastle, north of Sydney.
Emergency services were called to Bar Beach just after 10.30am after a Volkswagen Golf crashed through a barrier at the top carpark and drove over the edge.
A 40-year-old woman and her two-year-old child were on the beach at the time and were struck by the car.
https://twitter.com/LydiaBilton/status/1308930175384518657The woman suffered possible leg fractures and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. Luckily, the child was not seriously harmed, suffering minor scratches.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 32-year-old woman, was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to the same hospital.
Police are investigating reports there was a male passenger in the Volkswagen.
Videos of the scene show the car on the beach at the base of a large cliff as a crowd of witnesses gather near the scene.
Police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and a retrieval operation is underway to remove the car from the beach.
