'Leave my family out of it': Andrews responds to social media taunt

Daniel Andrews has hit out at a person who left boots at a farm gate to represent the place where the Victorian premier attended the funeral of his father.

The boots were part of a "give Dan the boot" campaign, where social media users took photos of boots outside their house to express displeasure at the premier's politics.

Mr Andrews said the picture - which was sent to him - was not of the farm he attended but the message was the same.

"I'll just say this - having different views to me, that's fine. It's a healthy part of our democratic society. But decency matters too," Mr Andrews said.

"The last time I was in that shed was when I carried my father's coffin out of it, and I think that that is... I won't use the words that my father would use to describe that sort of act."

Mr Andrews said he acknowledged that his policies would cause a rift in public opinion, but that does not mean personal taunts are acceptable.

"That's just... Low. Low. And it has no place, no, no place. Have a different view to me, but leave my family out of it, and particularly the dead members of my family out of it," Mr Andrews said.

"I don't think that's too much to ask. Shame, shame on him, shame."

Mr Andrews' father Bob died in 2014 after a long battle with cancer.

A beef farmer by trade, Bob Andrews was farewelled on the family farm in Londrigan.

Daniel Andrews gave a eulogy at the ceremony and was one of his father's pallbearers.
