Thousands swarm to the beach in Victoria as weather warms up

In total, Victoria police officers stopped 14,569 vehicles at checkpoints yesterday and conducted 4284 checks on people at homes, businesses and public places across the state.

Police and ADF cracked down on beach-goers as warmer weather across the state saw couped-up Victorians flock outdoors.

Among those fined was a Hawthorn woman who was spotted parked in St Kilda, around 10km from her home.

She told police she was looking for a supermarket to buy toilet paper but got lost.

Outside of Melbourne, group of seven young people, who all lived at different addresses, were found at a house party yesterday in Warrnambool on Victoria's south-west coast, where Stage Three restrictions are in place.

Police issued the teens with a warning, but an hour later police were called back to the home and found them all still there.

All seven were issued with fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions.

In another instance, a woman was fined after holding a birthday party for a five-year-old at her house in Latrobe, in the state's Gippsland region.

Twelve adults and eight children attended the gathering.

A San Remo family were also fined after a carload of two adults and three children were stopped at a vehicle checkpoint.

The male driver of the car told police he was picking up medication from his work and they had decided to get pizza in Pakenham before heading home.

Asked why his partner and three children needed to also attend, he said the family had to do everything together.

Victoria recorded a further 114 COVID-19 cases today, an increase on yesterday's two-month low of 94 cases.
