A Western Australian woman has suffered terrible burns after a man she knew allegedly threw petrol over her and set her alight.
Arson Squad detectives charged the man, 37, from Medina, south of Perth, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and criminal damage by fire.
The woman suffered burns to 35 per cent of her body after the man allegedly doused her and part of her lounge room with petrol, and sparked a fire.
Police said the woman, aged in her 20s, managed to run from the house where neighbours put the flames out and called emergency services.
An ambulance rushed her to Fiona Stanley Hospital with burns.
The man was also taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment for burns.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today in a bedside hearing.
