NSW helicopter pilot dies days after crashing into power lines

The pilot of a helicopter that crashed in a remote part of western New South Wales after hitting power lines last week has died.

The 34-year-old man from Griffith was briefly trapped inside the downed chopper at Steam Plains last Friday, while crews worked to clear the power lines.

NSW Police confirmed in a statement to 9News that the pilot died earlier today in hospital.

The crash site is currently under the control of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Steam Plains is one of the biggest sheep farms in the state, located between Hay and Deniliquin.

A report will be prepared for NSW Coroner.

More to come.
