Thousands of Melbourne households are unable to drink tap water this morning after a power outage during a destructive storm caused untreated water to enter the supply system.
Three people died, including a four-year-old boy, in the disastrous storm overnight, with a mass clean-up now underway.
The SES received close to 2000 calls for help, most of those being in Melbourne's east and south-east.

Yarra Valley Water issued a warning to households about the contaminated water today, which is affecting 88 suburbs across the city.
"We've become aware of a potential water quality issue affecting 88 suburbs due to electrical damage caused by storms overnight," a statement from Yarra Valley Water read.

"We are urging customers not to drink their water unless it is boiled. We've notified the Department of Health and Human Services and more information will follow."
The supplier said the initial issue had been addressed, but "undisinfected water is still within some areas".
