Magnitude 6.6 earthquake strikes in the Philippines

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 has struck Samar, in the eastern Philippines.

The tremor was recorded just after 10am (AEST) and had a depth of 30km, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no tsunami threat to Australia as a result of the earthquake.
