President Donald Trump has torn into his Democratic opponent Joe Biden after accepting the presidential party nomination on the final night of the Republican National Convention.
Mr Trump, speaking in front of the White House, said November's election was the most important in the history of the country.
"At no time before have voters faced a clearer choice between two parties, two visions, two philosophies, or two agendas," he said.
"This election will decide whether we save the American dream, or whether we allow a socialist agenda to demolish our cherished destiny."
Mr Trump criticised his Democratic opponent and his party for assailing America as a "land of racial, economic and social injustice".
"How can the Democrat Party ask to lead our country when it spends so much time tearing down our country?" he said.
"In the left's backward view, they do not see America as the most free, just and exceptional nation on earth - instead, they see a wicked nation that must be punished for its sins."
Mr Trump called it a "tired anthem spoken by every repressive movement throughout history".
"Joe Biden is not a saviour of America's soul," he said.
"He is the destroyer of America's jobs and, if given the chance, he will be the destroyer of American greatness."
Mr Trump has claimed he will deliver a coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year.
In an address delivered in front of a crowd of supporters at the White House, Mr Trump likened the fight against coronavirus to the Civil War and World War II.
"In recent months, our nation, and the entire planet, has been struck by a new and powerful, invisible enemy.
"Like those brave Americans before us, we are meeting this challenge.
"We are delivering life-saving therapies. And we'll produce a vaccine before the end of the year - or maybe even sooner."
Coronavirus accounts for about 1000 deaths each day in the United States.
