Business partner found not guilty of murdering Gold Coast man Philip Carlyle

A 72-year-old man has been found not guilty of the execution-style murder of his business associate in their Gold Coast office more than 20 years ago.

Philip Carlyle, 47, was found dead in an air-conditioning plant room inside his Robina office in April 1997.

His business partner, Neil Pentland, was charged with murder in 2017.

The 47-year-old father-of-three had been at the property to tidy up some loose ends before departing on a planned overseas trip.

A security guard found Mr Carlyle's body in the air conditioning room with four gunshots wounds, fired at close range, to the head.

At the time, police believed Mr Carlyle knew his killer.

In 2017 the cold case was reopened as part of Operation Carye and three people were arrested, including Mr Pentland.

This morning, Brisbane Supreme Court Justice Glenn Martin handed down a verdict of not guilty in the judge-only trial.
