Major testing blitz underway across Logan, south of Brisbane

Testing lines in Logan, south of Brisbane, are growing after six positive COVID-19 cases in two days.

What appears to be hundreds of cars are queued up outside the Orion Springfield shopping centre where a pop-up testing clinic has been set up.

Earlier today Health Minister Steven Miles said testing in the Metro South area had increased fourfold.

Coronavirus: Contact tracing underway in Queensland

Some people waiting in line told 9News they had been waiting for more than four hours.

"It just astounds me that anyone could do what these young ladies have done and think that that's okay," Diane and Barry Kerr said.

"You have no idea what the person next to you (in line) have been doing.

"(We spent) three hours in the sun at QEII hospital to get told to go home, or go sit in your car for another 2-3 hours."

Similar scenes are happening across Logan and its surrounding suburbs with long lines for testing outside hospitals and Parklands Christian College.

A screening clinic was established yesterday at the school for the public soon after it was discovered a school cleaner had tested positive to COVID-19.

Mike Warman, a spokesperson for the school who sits on the board of directors, said original plans to finish testing last night had changed due to demand.

"We did have an end point at 6pm (last night) but the team kept going until everyone was through," he said.

"I believe they (health authorities) are talking about opening the clinic again tomorrow, which wasn't the initial plan, and possibly over the weekend."

He said staff at the school were frantically trying to transition all lessons to be done remotely again.

Our staff are now busily preparing learning at home for all of our students," he said.

"It's beyond frustration, it's devastating and disappointing."

The alarm was raised yesterday when two 19-year-old women from Logan and Acacia Ridge tested positive for coronavirus, believed to have been contracted in Melbourne.

The three today include one overseas arrival, and two people who had been in Sydney, had dined at the Apollo restaurant, which is where the virus has been in the last few weeks, and were self-isolating.

Almost 1000 people were tested in the Metro South health district yesterday and the results of those tests are expected to come back later today.

"We have had no further cases related to that cluster but it is important that we keep on testing and we keep on being alerted to more cases," Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said.

Coronavirus: Queensland records three new cases

"Yesterday, Queensland Health carried out more than 6800 tests … almost 1000 thousand of them the Metro South area," Mr Miles said.

"Can I from the outset recommend both health and the police for the rapid response they have been deploying over the last 24 hours.

"This is exactly the scenario that we have been planning and the rapid response is exceptional.

"During this time, we need to make sure that everyone is doing the right thing.  We need to make sure that if you are sick, you are getting tested."
