A ferocious fire has ripped through a factory in Melbourne's north this afternoon.
Firefighters arrived on scene at Settlement Road in Thomastown about 1.30pm following reports of a structure fire.
There have been reports of multiple people injured and explosions coming from the industrial site.
9News has captured aerial video of black smoke and flames billowing from the factory, as fire crews continue to battle the blaze.
"Currently 16 FRV firefighting appliances have been responded to the scene, including aerial telebooms and ladder platform units in addition to Command and support units," a Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) spokesperson told 9News.
"The first arriving crew were on scene in approximately six minutes and called for additional support.
"Crews are working to contain the fire and bring it under control."
The exact circumstances behind the blaze, including the number of people injured, are yet to be confirmed.
The FRV urged the community to avoid the area and ensure the roads are kept clear for emergency vehicles.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
