A woman has been killed in a housefire in Victoria's Yarra Ranges overnight.
Emergency crews were called to the property on Nugent Road, Monbulk, just before 10pm, when police, finishing their shift, noticed smoke coming over the back fence.
"The flames were through the roof before anyone even noticed the fire was there," Victoria Police Sergeant Luke Schroder said.
Seven fire trucks were called in to help battle the blaze and it was controlled within 10 minutes of them arriving.
The body of a woman, believed to be aged in her 90s, was found during a search inside.
"Once the fire was extinguished, unfortunately a body has been identified inside the house," Sergeant Schroder said.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner and at this stage the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
