A young woman has been charged with the murder of beloved Victorian greyhound trainer Karen Leek.
Ms Leek, 69, was found dead about 10am on May 26 when emergency services were called to her home on Cross Road in Devon Meadows, a town south-east of Melbourne.
Homicide Squad detectives today charged Berwick woman Jessie Moore, 25, over her murder.
The accused was arrested this morning and interviewed by police.
She is due to face the Melbourne Magistrates' Court shortly.
Racing community mourn trainer's death
Friend and Chair of Greyhound Racing Victoria Peita Duncan described Ms Leek as a "fantastic person" loved by the whole racing community.
"She was an amazing person, it's such a massive loss for us," she said."She has taught many, many people in this industry over her whole career.
"It's devastating for our industry and it's rocked us to our core."
Greyhound Racing Victoria, in a statement on its website, said Ms Leek was one of the industry's most "respected" trainers.
"The greyhound racing community is devastated by the shock news that Karen Leek has passed away, aged 69," the statement read.
"Karen was one of the most respected people in greyhound racing, recognised for her success as a breeder, rearer and trainer."
Ms Leek, based in Devon Meadows, was known for her "outstanding reputation" as a commercial rearer, raising many greyhound champions including Bewildering, Brokenwood, Extreme Magic, Godsend, Moreira and Nolen.
She was also a major contributor to greyhound racing administration, volunteering her time on various panels and being a member of the Greyhound Owners Trainers and Breeders Association (GOTBA).
