Twelve people are believed to have been injured in a stabbing at Lithgow Jail.

Twelve people are believed to be injured after a stabbing incident at Lithgow Jail in the NSW Blue Mountains.

Among the injured is a 36-year-old with stab wounds to the chest.

It is understood the person is currently being airlifted to Westmead Hospital while two others are being airlifted to a different hospital.
