A man has been charged with the murder of a teenage girl after her body was found in woodland in Hampshire, about an hour and a half from London, earlier this year.
The body of 16-year-old Louise Smith was found on 21 May, almost two weeks after she was first reported missing.
Shane Lee Mays has been remanded in custody after charged with her murder, according to Hampshire police.
The 29-year-old is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrate's Court this morning.
A woman, 29, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting Mays, but was released on bail on May 15.
Police have not revealed the cause of death and investigations are still underway in the area the body was found.
Ms Smith was last seen entering Tesco Metro on Greywell Road shortly before 7.30pm on May 7, and it was reported to police that she was seen in Somborne Drive at around midday on the May 8 VE Day bank holiday.
She was reported missing around 6.30pm the same day.
Mandy Ferdinando who has known Ms Smith since she was a child, described her as "a lovely girl with a heart of gold."
"The community is devastated, sad, shocked," Ms Ferdinando said.
"I can't speak for everybody but when anyone hears of a young person, whoever it may be, it's very sad."
