Amidst scenes of devastation and anger across America, some moments of solidarity between protesters and police are beginning to emerge.
Hundreds of thousands of violent demonstrators have raged for six nights of riots across multiple states following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.
But within the tense standoffs and ongoing clashes, there are those trying to get their message across peacefully.
In New York City, a black woman was photographed standing with a white police officer as protests flared across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
"In the middle of all the chaos last night I want share this moment between a peaceful protester and a police officer just having a casual and what seems like meaningful conversation," CNN reporter Shimon Prokupecz tweeted alongside the photo.

The image was later shared on Twitter by New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
"There so many more moments like this out there that are being overshadowed," Commissioner Shea wrote.
"This image embodies the true spirit of NYers & the men and women of the NYPD — everyday people striving for a unified NYC."
Earlier in Queens, NYPD officers kneeled alongside demonstrators as civilians read the names of black people killed by police throughout the years.

The officers, with their heads bowed, then joined in reading of the names. They were then seen shaking hands and hugging those who were protesting.
"Yes. This is how we unite as one," someone commented on social media.
And in Kansas City, in Missouri, a white police officer was photographed standing next to his black colleague as they both held up a sign that read, 'end police brutality'.

Meanwhile in other areas of the United States, some crowds have begun dancing and chanting in the streets in largely peaceful gatherings.
