Emergency services have resumed the search for a fisherman after he failed to return from an overnight fishing trip in southern Queensland waters.
Hervey Bay man Paul Brazier, 37, departed from Urangan Boat Harbour about 1.30pm on Monday for an overnight fishing trip.
He failed to return home and police were alerted yesterday afternoon.
Searches began on waters off Hervey Bay and re-commenced at first light this morning.
Search co-ordinator and police sergeant Jules Tyson said officers were cautiously optimistic.
"As in all search and rescues we hope to get the best outcome we can … hopefully his vessel has just broken down and it will be a quick search," he said.
Sergeant Tyson said the search air and sea search would be comprehensive.
"Our main search will be in the Platypus Bay-Rooney Point area. However we will extend that out to an area known as the Gutters and as far south as Ungowa," he said.
